Halloween is just around the corner — a holiday that once felt unfamiliar to us, but has now firmly become part of our lives, especially for kids. Halloween baked goods are usually pretty creative, and I'd like to suggest making cookies shaped like bones. They're wonderfully on-theme, and both kids and adults will love them. My daughter made a Halloween envelope shaped like a pumpkin at daycare, which turned out to be the perfect prop for the cookie photo shoot.
Ingredients:
- 270 g flour
- 200 g cottage cheese
- 100 g butter
- 50-100 g sugar
- 1 egg
- a pinch of salt
- cocoa (for dusting)

How to cook cottage cheese bone cookies
Place the softened butter and cottage cheese in a bowl. I used 82% fat butter and 9% fat cottage cheese — mine was the chunky kind, but smooth cottage cheese works just as well. Beat together with a mixer.

Add the flour (you can mix in 0.5 tsp of baking powder if you like). Beat briefly, just until the dough barely comes together.

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gather it into a ball, trying not to knead it too much.

For easier handling, divide the dough into four portions. Roll each portion into a long log. Cut into strips about 10 cm long.

Bake in an oven preheated to 180 degrees for 10–20 minutes — be careful not to overbake the cookies. Let cool completely.

My daughter and I packed the cookies into a themed envelope she made herself. If you want crispy cookies, store them uncovered; for soft cookies, store them tightly sealed in a bag. These Cottage Cheese Bone Cookies turn out wonderfully unique — and by the way, you don't have to save them just for Halloween. Make them any day you're in the mood!
