Have you ever had coffee and tea in the same glass? It's time to give it a try! Today I'm sharing a recipe for a drink that's incredibly popular all across Asia. It's served over ice, so it's perfect for hot weather. The word "yuanyang" in Chinese refers to a pair of mandarin ducks (the male is colorful, while the female is not). The word is also used to describe any unlikely pair, and in this case, as I understand it, it refers to the pairing of coffee and tea. The proportions are very simple — equal parts coffee and tea, plus the same amount of ice for serving. As for the condensed milk, I'd recommend adding it to taste. This recipe made 3 servings for me.
Ingredients:
- 200 ml strong coffee (1 tsp coffee)
- 200 ml black tea (1 tsp tea)
- 100 g condensed milk
- For serving:
- 200 g ice
- 100 g heavy cream

How to cook "yuanyang" (mandarin duck couple)
Brew the tea and coffee, then let them cool completely to room temperature. I used plain black tea with no additives, but you can also use green tea or Earl Grey, for example. My coffee was regular instant — feel free to use whatever you like. I measured the tea and coffee with a slightly heaping spoon.

Pour the coffee and tea into a blender along with the condensed milk and mix. If you don't have a blender, simply stir everything together in any container — a blender isn't necessary here.

Top with whipped heavy cream. I used 33% fat heavy cream (it's best to whip it ahead of time), but you can also use canned whipped cream. If you don't have whipped cream on hand, a scoop of vanilla ice cream works great on top as well. Add straws and serve immediately. I finished mine with a dusting of coffee and a few sugar hearts for decoration. "Yuanyang" has more of a coffee flavor, but with a subtle, unique twist — overall it's a delicious drink that I absolutely loved. It gives you an energy boost from the caffeine and cools you down beautifully on a scorching day!))
