Waldorf salad is a classic American salad made with sweet-tart apples, crisp celery stalks, sweet fragrant grapes, and crunchy walnuts, all tossed in a mayonnaise-lemon juice dressing. The result is a one-of-a-kind salad — juicy, slightly sweet, and a little tangy. Instead of celery stalks, you can use celery root, and instead of grapes, raisins work as well. In my opinion, though, it tastes much better with celery stalks and fresh grapes. There are also versions of Waldorf salad that include pieces of poached chicken, which makes for a heartier dish — though that's no longer the classic version.
Ingredients:
- 300 g apples (sweet-tart)
- 150 g celery stalks
- 150 g sweet grapes
- 30 g walnuts
- mayonnaise
- lemon juice
- leaf lettuce for serving (optional)

How to cook Waldorf salad
Cut the apples in half, remove the core and any inedible parts, then slice into thin bite-sized pieces. Immediately transfer the apples to a salad bowl, drizzle with lemon juice, and toss to coat so they don't brown.
