Today I'm sharing one of my favorite ways to prepare cauliflower and broccoli. I make this often — you can also throw in Brussels sprouts, Romanesco, or a mix of whatever you have. Any sausage or deli meat works here, whatever you've got in the fridge: sausage, ham, smoked chicken breast. This time I used a mix of hot dogs and smoked sausage. My husband, my daughter, and I practically finished the whole dish in one sitting — everyone went back for seconds! It turns out so delicious that even the most die-hard cauliflower and broccoli haters will eat it, though thankfully we don't have any of those in our family.
Ingredients:
- Vegetables:
- 300 g cauliflower (net weight)
- 300 g broccoli (net weight)
- 100 g onion
- 50 g butter + 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- salt, pepper, garlic
- Add-ins:
- 150 g cheese
- 120 g sausage (smoked varieties preferred)
- Sauce:
- 150 g sour cream
- 50 ml water
- 1 tsp mustard
- salt, pepper

How to cook baked cauliflower and broccoli with cheese and sausage
Slice the onion into very thin half-rings. Melt the butter with the vegetable oil in a skillet and add the onion. Sauté over low heat until lightly golden and soft.

Add the cauliflower and broccoli florets and stir to combine. The ingredient list shows the net weight of the vegetables, meaning florets only. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic. Cover with a lid and cook over medium heat for about 5–6 minutes, no longer. Stir occasionally. The vegetables should soften slightly but not become too tender. Don't overcook them!

Cut the sausage into thin strips and quickly sauté in the same skillet for about 30 seconds. Spread over the vegetables.
